THE BRIEF

The Faculty of Arts, Nelson Mandela University was hosting a Conference called Indigenous Knowledge Systems & Intellectual Property Rights in Africa and the World (IK 21). We were to design an A2, full colour poster for the conference. 

 

MY CONCEPT

 

When looking at the title of the posters, the word ‘Indigenous’ stood out to me. For my design, I researched a few symbolic African indigenous items and illustrated them for the background. The drum & shakers are symbolic of African indigenous music, the hut is symbolic of African indigenous architecture and the mask is symbolic of African indigenous culture, craft and art.
